ABOUT US

The VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for their service: Many arrived home wounded or sick. There was no medical care or veterans' pension for them, and they were left to care for themselves.

Firestone VFW Post was chartered on October 20, 1935, in a storeroom on South Main Street. It was named Firestone due to many of its members being employees of Firestone Tire & Rubber. In January 1936, the Ladies Auxiliary of Post 3383 was charted.

In October 1947, Firestone VFW bought the property and picnic grove on West Waterloo Road and in March 1959, the corner stone of the post present home was dedicated. In July of that year the post moved into its present home.

Firestone members have the VFW in various offices on all levels of the VFW, to include two of our past commanders going on to become State Commander.

Firestone VFW and its Auxiliaries’ have continued to support our community and help local veterans, with volunteer hours and donations of approximately $25,000 or more yearly to local community, youth programs, and support of veteran’s programs. We are especially proud that our Honors and Burial team, continues to provide Military rights to fallen Veterans in our community.

Our members continue to strive to serve our community, veterans, and the VFW.
